Sick building syndrome


Some people report feeling unwell or experiencing headaches in certain indoor spaces.

One possible factor is what's known as sick building syndrome, which happens if we spend too much time indoors. Wall coverings, furniture and the floor have a constant effect on us. What we inhale is what these products have previously exhaled. We are talking about emissions here. Depending on the material, products can release emissions into the indoor air. Improvements in building insulation reduce the exchange between internal and external air. The pollutants remain in the room for longer.

How good it is that it's a Hywood! And actually does it in several ways: The low-pollutant and allergy-friendly real wood hybrid floor is certified for a consciously designed living environment.

Hywood is easy to clean and hygienic. When in contact with your body, it is warm underfoot and slip-proof – even in wet rooms. And it's also easy on your ears: Hywood is quiet underfoot and sound-absorbing. Conscious living is even considered during the manufacturing process.

For its processing and finishing, we only use good, carefully selected ingredients.

20 years ago, it wasn't about promoting the eco-INSTITUT seal, which was practically unknown to customers back then. Two decades ago, as today, we work with the eco-INSTITUT for one reason only: to help you and our children's world learn to consciously value natural materials.

When priorities change

Our world is changing rapidly – and so are our priorities. So it's good that Hywood is oriented towards sustainability at all levels and optimally suited for climate-neutral construction.

And most important of all: Hywood is made of wood. And that is 90% FSC®-certified wood, i. e. from sustainable forestry. Because acting responsibly is important to us. This is also reflected in our manufacturing process. This is due to the combination of the three protective heroes – the intelligent technology that gives Hywood its extremely high durability.
After all, what could be more responsible than a long-lasting, valuable product!

Since Hywood is made largely of wood, the carbon stored in the wood remains locked in the product throughout its use. Wood used in the production of Hywood comes from managed forests.

Blue Angel

The eco-label identifies products that meet defined environmental and health criteria.

For more than 40 years, the Environmental Label of the Federal Government of Germany has been identifying products and services that meet defined environmental criteria. No other label in the non-food sector is as broadly based. Many everyday products bear the eco-label: for example, paints, furniture, detergents or recycled paper.

The Blue Angel is an impartial and economically independent voluntary product label. This is guaranteed by the Federal Ministry for the Environment as the label holder, the Federal Environment Agency for the scientific development of the award criteria, the "Environmental Label Jury" as the decision-making body, and RAL gGmbH as the independent certification organisation.

Eco


The eco-INSTITUT was established as an independent, private enterprise in the 1980s. It is one of the most experienced German laboratories in the analysis of, among other things, indoor air for pollutants. We spend up to 90% of our lives in enclosed rooms. The quality of the air contributes to a pleasant indoor climate.

VOC

VOC stands for volatile organic compound. Our homes and interiors are better insulated than they used to be. This means that substances that are in materials and evaporate remain in the indoor air for longer. Some of these substances have been proved to be harmful to us.

Originating in France, the A+ to C label serves as an indication for the emissions of building products and interior furnishing materials.


EPD

EPD stands for Environmental Product Declaration. It describes the relevant characteristics of a product in terms of impact on the environment. As far as possible, this document takes into account the entire life cycle of the product.

CARB 2

CARB is the acronym for the California Air Resources Board. It is a government commission of the US state of California. CARB 2 indicates compliance with strict formaldehyde emission limits.


CE

CE stands for Conformité Européenne (European Conformity). With the CE mark, we declare that our products conform to all applicable EU regulations. The EU regulations include, among other things, requirements on formaldehyde and VOC emissions as well as further product-specific requirements.
RESPONSIBLE FORESTRY

Because we need nature, not the other way round

PEFC

PEFC can be thought of as the inspection agency for our forests. Independent experts work for this organisation worldwide.


Forest Stewardship Council®

The FSC® is an independent non-profit organisation. It promotes responsible forest management worldwide, taking into account ecological, social and economic requirements. FSC®-certified forests and products manufactured from their wood. Leading ecological NGOs are members of FSC® and actively work to constantly improve the system.
