good for you

Healthy living with Ikō

In a world in which we spend up to 90 per cent of our life in closed rooms, the air quality becomes a decisive factor for our health and well being. The floor covering, which comprises a large part of our living space plays a central role for the room climate and is becoming increasingly important. Because modern building insulation reduces the exchange of inside and outside air: Harmful substances from carpets, furniture and conventional flooring thus remain in the room atmosphere longer.
Not with Ikõ: The floor consists almost entirely of wood, is free of plastic and harmful components such as plasticisers and chlorine - and thus guarantees that you can feel completely at ease in your home.

PLASTIC-FREE

The materials we use make it possible

Laminate floors consists almost entirely of wood and other organic materials. Every layer of the product’s structure contains healthy and sustainable components.

The healthy centrepiece of the floor is its compressed baseboard made from timber fibres. This is stabilised on the underside by a stabilising layer also made from wood fibres. The surface of the Dureco floor consists of resin, into which we mix the natural mineral corundum.

ter Hürne laminate floors make a sustainable contribution to a better carbon footprint in the same way as engineered hardwood flooring made from natural wood. One cubic metre of wood stores one tonne of CO². That helps to reduce the CO² levels in our atmosphere. Some of the wood in the baseboards comes from storm-damaged trees. These are thus put to good use and also continue to store CO².

4 natural layers

1. Top layer

We seal the surface with high-grade resin, into which we bind the natural mineral corundum.

2. Design layer

The design carrier consists of natural wood fibres, as does the baseboard.

3. Baseboard

The baseboard is the healthy centrepiece of the floor. We manufacture them from compressed wood fibres.

4. Backing layer

We even manufacture the wood pulp stabilising layer.
SUSTAINABLE FORESTRY

Because we need nature – and not the other way round

3 green reasons for Ikō

From sustainable sources

Ikō laminate floor captivates not just with is aesthetic appeal but equally with its environmental awareness. Manufactured using almost entirely natural materials, we systematically avoid harmful ingredients. Moreover our manufacture is based on wood from sustainable forestry and about 80 per cent comes from local forests - a clear commitment to regional responsibility.

Durable and designed for the circular economy

Our commitment to sustainability goes even further: in line with the circular economy, we are increasingly using waste wood in our board production. We do not waste any part of the tree, but even use what would normally remain unused. The compressed core board of Ikō laminate flooring, consisting of wood fibres, is stabilised by a backing made from the same materials. Even the adhesive we use is derived mainly from the resins present in the wood. The result: a floor covering that is not only environmentally friendly, but also extremely durable.

Good for the environment, good for you

Our Ikõ Premium laminate flooring fulfils the highest ecological standards as well as the requirements for a healthy room climate. Our floors outperform the legal requirements for emission free living. So you don't just live stylishly but you can also feel good. You can find out more about this on the next page.

DID YOU KNOW?

Trees are natural climate protectors

Trees are important for our climate. Their trees produce the oxygen that is essential to life. And they absorb and bind the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide (CO₂) from the air. Every cubic metre of wood stores one tonne of CO².
This CO₂ even remains bound if a construction material is made from the wood, such as a floor covering for example.

Building with wood thus helps to support the climate.

ANTIBACTERIAL

More than just clean

Spilled liquids, pets and the soles of your shoes transfer a wide variety of bacteria onto your floor.

Your floor not only looks beautiful, it remains clean and free of pathogens, because the special surface treatment reduces the growth of bacteria.

So your floor is more than clean.

Blue Angel

When shopping, more and more people are looking for products that are durable and environmentally friendly. This is exactly what the Blue Angel stands for. For 40 years, the eco-label has guaranteed high standards for the protection of our environment and health - independently and credibly.
Steffi Lemke (Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection)

For more than 40 years, the Environmental Label of the Federal Government of Germany has been identifying environmentally friendly products and services. No other label in the non-food sector is as broadly based. Many everyday products bear the eco-label: for example, paints, furniture, detergents or recycled paper.

The Blue Angel is an impartial and economically independent voluntary product label. This is guaranteed by the Federal Ministry for the Environment as the label holder, the Federal Environment Agency for the scientific development of the award criteria, the "Environmental Label Jury" as the decision-making body, and RAL gGmbH as the independent certification organisation.

Good for you. Good for the environment.

Eco

The
eco-INSTITUT was established as an independent, private enterprise in the 1980s. It is one of the most experienced German laboratories in the analysis of indoor air for pollutants. We spend up to 90% of our lives in enclosed rooms. The quality of the air in the room determines our well-being and our health.

eco-INSTITUT tests our floors

  • for the entire manufacturing process
  • for the ingredients we use
  • for harmful ingredients such as plasticizers, heavy metals and pesticides
  • for toxic gases that escape
  • for smells

The eco-label certifies products that are low in emissions. For better indoor air in your room.

VOC

VOC stands for volatile organic compound. Our homes and interiors are better insulated than they used to be. This means that substances that are in materials and evaporate remain in the indoor air for longer. Some of these substances have been proved to be harmful for our health.

Originating in France, the A+ to C label serves as an indication for the emissions of building products and interior furnishing materials.

Note:
ter Hürne laminate floors with the dimensions 1,286 mm x 194 mm and 1,286 mm x 243 mm are awarded the A+ label. All other ter Hürne laminate floors have an A rating label.

The label gives you and us a secure sense of healthy indoor air.
